Màrtainn is a traditional musician, from Lochaber, living in Glasgow, out of the West Coast tradition of dance music.
Gigging at the moment is an enjoyable mix of the Màrtainn Skene Highland Dance Band and the Donald Black Band, with regular involvement with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Fèisean nan Gàidheal instrumental tuition for school-age kids and ongoing work on tune-writing and arranging.
Màrtainn was a semi-finalist in BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2019 competition.
I was pretty excited for the band to get nominated for Dance Band of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards 2018. Sadly, we didn't win, but were absolutely thrilled to be on the shortlist, so thank you everyone for your votes!
